Razor clamming now open Coos Bay to California border; other shellfish closures remain, July 1

ODFW release – SALEM, Ore – Razor clamming is now open from Coos Bay south jetty to the California border the Oregon Department of Agriculture and the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife announced today. Two consecutive tests showed biotoxin levels below the closure limit in the area from Coos Bay to Cape Blanco (Cape Blanco to California border reopened June 21.) People should always call the Shellfish Safety Hotline (1-800-448-2474) before heading out to harvest shellfish or visit the ODA Recreational Shellfish Biotoxin Closures Webpage. Mussel harvest remains closed coastwide and bay clamming remains closed from Cascade Head to the California border for high levels of the marine biotoxin paralytic shellfish poison (PSP). Razor clamming remains closed from Yachats to Coos Bay for high levels of PSP and domoic acid. Current harvest closures and openings: Razor clams: Open from Washington border to Yachats River. Closed from Yachats River to Coos Bay north jetty. Open from Coos Bay north jetty to California border. Bay clams: Open from Washington border to Cascade Head. Closed from Cascade Head to California border. Mussels: Closed coastwide. ODA will continue testing for shellfish toxins at least twice per month, as tides and weather permit. Reopening an area closed for biotoxins requires two consecutive tests with results below the closure limit.
