SCDC Seeking Grant to Expand Broadband Access, Feb. 20

City of North Bend release – Regional Economic Development Corporation Working to Bridge the Digital Divide. In collaboration with Beacon Broadband, Inc., Coos-Curry Electric Cooperative, Inc., and Douglas Fast Net, the South Coast Development Council, Inc. has taken a giant leap forward by submitting a regional grant application through Business Oregon’s Broadband Technical Assistance Program (BTAP). In Coos and Curry counties, the digital divide is a stark reality. While some areas enjoy multiple fiber options, others are left in the digital dark without broadband access. This disparity affects not just the convenience but the very livelihood and connectivity of our communities. We aim to bridge this gap with a potential $267,330 from the BTAP grant and $432,400 in matching funds. SCDC’s goal? To unite stakeholders in crafting and implementing a regional strategy that extends internet access to our most unserved and underserved neighbors. As a beacon of economic development and partnership on Oregon’s South Coast, SCDC is committed to enhancing regional broadband access and quality. This initiative is more than just about connectivity; it’s about unlocking the full economic potential of our region. Together, we’re on the brink of something big. Stay tuned for updates, and join us in envisioning a more connected, inclusive future for our communities.
