The battle for first place in the 4A District 4 volleyball league is on the line tonight at the Pirate Palace, Coos Bay. No. 2 Marist Catholic (6-0, 18-1) at No. 1 Marshfield (5-1, 18-3). In the two teams first meeting at Eugene, the Spartans won 3-2. JV matches at 5 p.m., followed by the varsity match at 6:30 p.m. In prep VB Tuesday, 3A – North Valley won at Brookings-Harbor 3-0, and Coquille beat visiting Douglas 3-0. In 2A – Reedsport won at Illinois Valley 3-2 and Bandon beat visiting Oakland 3-0. In 1A – Powers fell at New Hope Christian 3-0.

In 4A girl’s prep soccer Tuesday, North Bend won at Junction City 5-0. The Bulldogs (4-2, 7-4-1) host Cottage Grove on Thursday, 7 p.m., Vic Adams Field. In boy’s 4A prep soccer Tuesday, North Bend lost at Junction City/Harrisburg 2-1. The Bulldogs (1-5, 1-10-1) host Cottage Grove on Thursday, 5 p.m., Vic Adams Field. In 3A/2A/1A girls prep soccer – Elmira won at Siuslaw 4-3 and Coquille Myrtle Pt. beat visiting Rogue River 8-0. In boy’s 3A/2A/1A prep soccer – Siuslaw/Mapleton tied Central Linn 3-3, Coquille/Myrtle Pt. beat visiting Douglas 5-3, Pacific/Bandon downed visiting Gold Beach 8-0, and Brookings-Harbor won at Rogue River 8-0.

Most of the South Coast’s prep cross-country teams will run at Pacific High School’s Cinnamon Roll Run Wednesday at Buffington Park, Port Orford including North Bend and Marshfield.
