North Bend’s soccer teams both lost at Newport on Wednesday. The Bulldogs girls fell 3-2 and the boys lost 7-2 to the Cubs. The boys (0-3-1) are scheduled to play Saturday at Cascade and the girls (2-2) are also at Cascade Saturday in Turner.

Marshfield and North Bend open the 4A District 4 Volleyball League season Thursday. The Bulldogs are home to host Marist Catholic, while the Lady Pirates are on the road to Junction City. Cottage Grove has the bye, but will host Klamath Union in a non-league match. All three matches are scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. In 3A, Creswell visits Siuslaw in a Mtn. Valley Conference opener, while Coquille at Sutherlin, and Brookings-Harbor at Douglas are Far West League openers. In 2A, Valley Coast Conference openers for Reedsport at Gold Beach; and, Bandon at Waldport. 1A Skyline League has Myrtle Pt. at Days Ck.; Riddle at Powers; and, Camas Valley at Pacific. All 6pm.
