Marshfield lost its second straight prep football game Friday night 44-26 to visiting Cascade in the Pirates home opener. Marshfield (0-2) opens league play at North Bend, Friday, Sept. 15, 7 p.m., Vic Adams Field. North Bend beat 5A Willamette 41-12 at Vic Adams Field to improve to 2-0. Next up is the Pirates at the Dogs Friday night, Sept. 15. Saturday games: 3A, Lakeview downed visiting Brookings-Harbor 45-0. In 2A, Gold Beach beat visiting Nestucca 36-18. In 1A8 Myrtle Point won at Cove 52-48. And, 1A6, Powers downed visiting North Lake, 58-20.

At the Cascade Volleyball Tournament Saturday, Marshfield beat Stayton 2-0, lost to Sisters 0-2, and beat Cascade 2-1 in a battle 30-32, 25-13, 15-12. North Bend beat Astoria 2-0, but lost to Sisters 2-0 at the same tournament. The Pirates (10-2) open league play on Thursday, Sept. 14, at Junction City. North Bend (6-1) will host Marist Catholic Thursday, 6:30 p.m.

Visiting Crook Co. beat North Bend 3-1 in a non-league boys’ soccer match at Vic Adams Field, Saturday. The Bulldogs (0-2-1) play at Newport/Waldport Wednesday, Sept. 13, 7:15 p.m. Marshfield’s boys (0-2) are at Newport/Waldport in a non-league soccer match Monday, 5 p.m. In girls’ soccer, visiting Crook Co. beat North Bend 1-0 Saturday, Vic Adams Field. North Bend (2-1) is at Newport, Wednesday, Sept. 13, 5:30 p.m. Marshfield’s girls (1-2) are at Newport Monday, 7 p.m.

North Bend’s girls won the Harvest Festival Invitational Cross-Country meet at Myrtle Point Saturday. The Bulldogs, led by sophomore Ellie Massey’s first-place finish in 20:44 on the 5K course, scored 17-points to Phoenix with 40 and Myrtle Point 75. Freshman Bryleigh Mead was second for NB (21:34); followed by freshman Lauren Wolfe in fourth (22-37), freshman Alize Page sixth (22:51), and senior Abby Woodruff eighth (24:04). Phoenix won the boy’s race with 23-points, North Bend second with 55, followed by Douglas with 72, and Reedsport 83. Senior Kael Feely, Phoenix was the individual champion (17:10), North Bend junior Matix Wolfe was fourth (18:23), senior Tiago Schrader fifth (18:39), senior Gavin Schmidt 13th (19:47), senior Leland Rodriguez 21st (21:51) and junior Ephraim Moffett 24th (22:33). North Bend will next compete in the Prefontaine Run, Saturday, Sept. 16, Coos Bay. Marshfield ran Thursday at the Brookings Invite, Salmon Run. The Pirate boys won with 26-points, Fortuna followed with 46 & the host Bruins with 52. Pirate sophomore Jaxson Stovall won the 5K race in 17:03.64. Junior Elijah Cellura was second (18:59.88), followed by senior Talon Thomas fourth (19:59.39), freshman Donald Brice seventh (21:20.37), and sophomore Ayden McNamee 15th (25:42.28). Marshfield girls were the only complete team competing in their race. Senior Gabby Crosswhite, Fortuna, won in 23:36.50. MHS freshman Lily Thompson was second (23:49.36, followed by sophomore Riley Mullanix fourth (25:41.85), sophomore Reanna Mathias seventh (26:09.68), freshman Natalie Yost eighth (27:15.59), and senior Jenna Erickson ninth (27:25.20). Marshfield will also run at the Prefontaine Memorial Run Saturday at Coos Bay.
