Cottage Grove’s girls won the 4A District 4 Cross-Country team championship Thursday at Lane CC, Eugene. Junior Libby Fox, Junction City, was the individual winner on the 5K course (19:34.40). The Lions won with 38-points, Junction City was second (42), followed by North Bend (56), Marist Catholic (107) and Marshfield (111). Sophomore Ellie Massey led the Bulldogs in seventh (20:42.30), followed by freshman Bryleigh Mead in eighth (21:08.70). Marshfield was led by freshman Lily Thompson, 15th (22:26.70). Junior Carter Bengston, Cottage Grove, won the boy’s race in 15:41.40. Marshfield sophomore Jaxson Stovall was second (16:33.30). Cottage Grove won the team race with 31-points, followed by Marist Catholic (46), Marshfield (81), North Bend (98), and Junction City (103). Junior Matix Hinzman led North Bend in seventh (18:05.50). The OSAA State Cross Country Championships are Nov. 4th at Lane CC, Eugene. At Valley Rogue State Park in Southern Oregon Thursday, the 3A/2A/1A District Championships were held. In the girl’s race, Siuslaw was first with 17-points, and Bandon second with 66. Myrtle Pt. was 9th (228). Sophomore Alison Hughes, Siuslaw, was the individual winner in 19:54.49, while Bandon senior Analise Miller was tops for the Tigers in fourth place (20:20.89). Junior Dylyn Wurch led Myrtle Pt. in 48th (24:07.36). The boy’s 3A race was won by Siuslaw (27-points), Brookings-Harbor was ninth (190). Individually, Siuslaw senior Brayden Linton won in 16:32.62, while senior Peter Goode led Brookings-Harbor in 20th (18:53.02). Reedsport won the boy’s 2A/1A race with 59-points, Bandon second with 72. Junior Curtiss Heier, Illinois Valley, was the individual champion (17:06.31), while Bandon freshman Noah Brown was third (17:39.93). Junior Clayton Wilson led Reedsport in fifth place (17:52.00).

Final week of the regular prep football season for both Marshfield and North Bend. The Bulldogs host league-leader Henley at Vic Adams Field and the Pirates host second-place Mazama at Pete Susick Stadium. Both games kick-off at 7 p.m. In 3A – Pleasant Hill at Siuslaw and Coquille at St. Mary’s Medford. In 2A – Gold Beach at Oakland and North Douglas/Yoncalla at Reedsport. In 1A8 – Myrtle Pt. at Camas Valley. On Saturday, 2A – Rogue River at Bandon/Pacific, 6p. 3A – Douglas at Brookings-Harbor, 3p.

Both Marshfield and North Bend enter the OSAA State Volleyball playoffs first round with home matches on Saturday. The Bulldogs go first at 1 p.m. vs. Astoria, while the Lady Pirates play La Grande at 4 p.m. The winners advance to the OSAA State Tournament at Springfield HS, Nov. 3rd & 4th. In 3A – Vale eliminated Coquille 3-0. In 2A – Saturday, Bandon at Salem Academy, 2p. 1A – Myrtle Pt. lost at Imbler, 3-0.

3A/2A/1A – Girls’ prep soccer Saturday has McLoughlin at Brookings-Harbor, 10a; Boy’s prep soccer has Siuslaw/Mapleton at Dayton, 4p & Santiam Christian at Brookings-Harbor, 12:30p.
