Both North Bend and Marshfield hit the road Friday night for non-league prep football games and both came away winners. The Bulldogs traveled to Adair Village, just north of Corvallis on Hwy. 99, to play 3A Santiam Christian. North Bend prevailed 31-28 over the Eagles. Marshfield traveled to unbeaten Junction City and beat the Tigers 14-8 at Bill Peden Field. Both Bay Area teams will be home next Friday, Oct. 6. The Bulldogs (2-1, 5-1) host Stayton in a non-league game, while the Pirates (1-1, 2-3) host Ashland in a Special District 4 match up. In other area prep games from Friday night – 3A: Coquille won at Sutherlin 37-0, Brookings-Harbor held off visiting Phoenix 14-6 in overtime, and Siuslaw downed visiting Creswell 38-14. 2A: Gold Beach won at Bandon/Pacific 30-20 and Illinois Valley downed visiting Reedsport 48-0. 1A8: Myrtle Pt. lost at home to Lost River 48-28. In 1A6: Saturday, Powers won at Gilchrist 58-6.

On Saturday in the 2A-3 Valley Coast Conference for prep volleyball, Reedsport lost at Oakridge 3-0, Bandon beat East Linn Christian Academy 3-0, Gold Beach lost to East Linn Christian Academy 3-0, Central Linn beat Gold Beach 3-0, and Lowell beat Reedsport 3-0.

In boys’ prep soccer Saturday, Coquille/Myrtle Pt. tied visiting So. Umpqua 3-3.

Marshfield’s cross country teams ran at the Fugate Farms Invite Friday. Host Bandon won the girls’ race with 21-points as sophomore Marley Petrey took first place for the Tigers in 20:22.88. Marshfield finished second with 51-points and led by freshman Lily Thompson, 8th, in 21:35.91. Coquille was led by sophomore Ada Millett, fourth (21:10.66). Senior Natalie Hammond led Reedsport in 13th (23:28.47). Freshman Addison Stallard led Pacific in 14th (23:43.05), and junior Dylyn Wurch led Myrtle Pt., 20th (25:01.47). In the boy’s race, Marshfield sophomore Jaxson Stovall won the 5K race around the cranberry bogs in 16:11.59. The Pirates won the team race with 39-points, Douglas second with 61, followed by Bandon with 65. Bandon freshman Noah Brown was fifth (18:01.33), freshman Eli Nicholson followed (18:22.33) followed in sixth for Myrtle Pt. Senior Peter Goode led Brookings-Harbor in eighth (18:46.38), and freshman Vegas Lichte was 18th (19:44.38) for Reedsport. North Bend’s cross country teams ran at the Woahink Lake XC Invitational Saturday. Host Siuslaw won the girl’s race with 29-points, Cottage Grove second with 54 and North Bend third with 60. Junior Maddison France of Cottage Grove won the 5K race in 21:02.10. She was followed by sophomore Alison Huges of Siuslaw in 21:31.70. Freshman Bryleigh Mead led North Bend in fifth (22:13.60). In the boy’s race, junior Carter Bengtson won in 16:28.40, while senior Braden Linton was second for Siuslaw in 17:21.00. Siuslaw won the team race with 37-points, Cottage Grove took second with 52. North Bend was fifth with 117. Myrtle Pt. freshman Eli Nicholson was 13th overall (19:18.80, while North Bend senior Tiago Schrader was 16th 19:32.40 for the Bulldogs.
