Girl’s prep basketball results from Friday night, Dec. 1: North Bend won at Hidden Valley 31-27. At the Winter Lake Showcase, Coquille beat Creswell 42-41 and Reedsport downed Siuslaw 50-27. Brookings-Harbor lost 49-27 to Etna (CA) at the Yreka Tournament. At Elkton, Bandon downed Salem Academy 70-32. At the Days Ck. Invitational, Myrtle Pt. beat Prospect Charter 55-15 At the Mapleton Invite, Powers beat C.S. Lewis Academy 33-24. In boy’s games Friday: Brookings-Harbor beat visiting Gold Beach 56-55. Mapleton Invitational, Powers beat McKenzie 41-30. At the Winter Lake Showcase, Siuslaw downed Reedsport 71-49, and Creswell beat Coquille 61-27. North Bend lost at Hidden Valley 78-49, and Marshfield vs. Crook Co. at the Crook Co. Tip-Off Classic, Prineville, was canceled.

In girl’s prep basketball action Saturday, Marshfield lost 52-48 to Madras at the Madras Tournament. At the Winter Lake Showcase at Coquille, Glide beat Siuslaw 50-24, and at the Yreka Tournament, Orland (CA) beat Brookings-Harbor 42-36. At the Day’s Ck. Invitational, Myrtle Pt. beat Alsea 61-18. At the Mapleton Invite, Powers downed Mapleton 37-32. In boy’s games Saturday: At the Mapleton Invite, Powers lost to C.S. Lewis Academy 32-26. At the Coquille Winter Lake Showcase, Coquille beat Monroe 56-53, and Siuslaw downed Glide 81-61. Marshfield vs. Cascade at the Crook Co. Tip-Off Classic, Prineville, was canceled.

Marshfield’s wrestling team opened the 2023-24 prep season at the Perry Burlison Wrestling Classic at Cascade HS, Turner, Saturday. Head coach Gary Roberts, “It was a great tournament to see where we are at and work to improve. The potential is there but we need to get better in the practice room.” The Pirate boys placed 13th overall (out of 23 schools), Reese Hite (132lbs), and Garron Castro (106) placed 4th. Marshfield Girls placed 17th (23 schools); Dollies Austin (115lbs) placed 5th, Kayla Hayes (120) placed 6th, and Olivia Shield (155) placed 5th. The Pirates next wrestle Tuesday, Dec. 5, 1 pm. at the Sutherlin Wrestling Classic along with North Bend, Gold Beach, Coquille/Bandon and Siuslaw.
