MHS AD Honored
Marshfield High School Athletic Director Greg Mulkey has been named 4A AD of the Year as well as Large School (4A, 5A, 6A) AD of the Year at the Oregon Athletic Directors Conference April 16th at Sunriver in Central Oregon. “This prestigious accolade acknowledges outstanding leadership in their league and across the classification.”
OSAA Speech & Debate
Bandon was second (32), Marshfield tied for fourth (10) and North Bend finished tied for sixth (2) at the OSAA Speech & Debate Championships Friday & Saturday at Western Oregon University, Monmouth. Marshfield’s Ella Croson was 2nd in Humorous Interpretation and Bandon’s Jessica Burg 3rd. In Oratory, Bandon’s Madeleine Pahls was third and also third in Radio. In Prose, Bandon’s Sidda Radcliffe was third.

The Marshfield boys’ golf team will head to the Running Y Golf Course, Klamath Falls, for a tournament on Monday, April 22. The Pirate girls will go to Tokatee, near McKenzie, for a State Preview Tournament.

Some of Marshfield’s track team competed at the Oregon Relays in Eugene Friday & Saturday, while others traveled to south to Curry Co. for the annual Brookings Rotary Invitational. At Eugene, Pirate junior Bodey Lutes dipped under 48-seconds (47.97) in the 400-Meters while finishing fourth in a loaded field. Jayden Horton-Mims, a junior from Imhotep Charter, PA, won in 45.95. Senior Ronnie Kendrick, NV, was second (46.85), and senior Pishon Haughton, British Columbia, was third (47.31). Sophomore Jaxson Stovall was 81st in the 3000 (9:58.73). Marshfield’s 4X100R Team (Joe Herbert, Quinton Kloster, Jake Day, Bodey Lutes finished 37th overall (44.18). The Pirate 4X400R Team (Kloster, Stovall, Chandler Wyatt, Bodey Lutes) was 35th overall (3:31.53). In the Sprint Medley Relay, MHS (Day, Carter McGriff, Wyatt, Lutes) was 14th overall (3:43.40). Seniors Danner Wilson, 3rd (14-11.25) and John Parks, 8th, (14-5.25) placed in the Pole Vault. Daphne Scriven was 20th (32-11) in the Girls’ Shot Put and ninth in the Discus (119-11.75). At Brookings, senior Chance Browning was second in the Shot Put (39-6) and second in the Javelin (141-8). Junior Jonah Martin won the Long Jump (18-1). For the Pirate girls: 4X100R (Mele Lutes, Kyra Steward, Avery Bartholomew, Suyana Garcia) came in second (55.96). Marshfield has a Sky-Em meet at North Bend Tuesday, April 23rd.

North Bend’s softball team swept Marist Catholic, at Eugene, Friday, 10-7 & 12-10. Marshfield split a Sky-Em League doubleheader at Coos Bay against visiting Junction City. Pirates win the opener 14-11, Tigers the second game 8-7. The road win by the Bulldogs and the split at home by Marshfield shortens the Pirates lead to one game with four games remaining. Marshfield is 7-1, while North Bend is 5-2. Junction City is third at 3-5, followed by Marist Catholic 2-5 and Cottage Grove 1-5. Marshfield is at Cottage Grove, Tuesday, 5p. North Bend hosts Junction City, Tuesday, 5p. 2A/1A – Reedsport lost at Toledo, 4-2 and, Eddyville Charter won at Gold Beach, 20-1. On Saturday, April 20: 3A – Visiting So. Umpqua swept Brookings-Harbor 17-0 & 14-3. Coquille lost twice at Lakeview, 14-4 (5) & 16-1 (4). 2A/1A – Bandon took two from visiting Colton, 13-3 & 7-6.

Both North Bend and Marshfield were swept in 4A Sky-Em League baseball doubleheaders Friday. The Bulldogs lost at Marist Catholic, Eugene, 10-1 & 12-4 dropping North Bend out of a tie for first place. The Pirates fell at home to visiting Junction City, 6-1 & 18-8. JC leads the league at 7-1, followed by Marist Catholic, 5-2, North Bend, 4-3, Marshfield, 2-6, & Cottage Grove, 0-6. North Bend is at Junction City, Tuesday, 5p. Marshfield is at Cottage Grove, Tuesday, 5p. 2A/1A – Reedsport (7-0, 12-3) won at Toledo, 4-3. Bandon/Pacific (6-1, 13-4) won at Siletz Valley, 17-1. Gold Beach (3-4, 4-6) beat visiting Eddyville Charter, 12-2. Saturday, April 20: 3A – visiting Brookings-Harbor (8-4, 9-6) split at So. Umpqua. Bruins lost the opener 6-1, but took the second game 7-1. Coquille (2-10, 4-13) lost two games at Lakeview. The Honkers won 10-1 & 15-0 (5).
