On October 26, 2023 Governor Tina Kotek ordered flags at Oregon public institutions to be flown at half-staff immediately pursuant to a Presidential Proclamation in response to the senseless acts of violence perpetrated in Lewiston, Maine. The flag should be flown at half-staff until sunset on Monday, October 30, 2023. When city staff attempted to lower the flag at the Pointman Memorial at the corner of Commercial Ave. & Bayshore Dr., the cable (Halyard) that is used to raise and lower the flag broke, damaging the pully system atop the pole. With help from the Coos Bay Fire Department, staff inspected the pully system, have ordered the replacement parts and will make repairs when the parts arrive. It is anticipated that this repair will be completed by the end of November. Thank you for your patience and understanding during this time.
