Marine Board Temporarily Closes Boating on Green Peter Reservoir, Aug. 10

Oregon State Marine Board release – Effective August 8, 2023, in response to the Wiley Fire in Linn County, the Oregon State Marine Board, after consultation with the Linn County Sheriff’s Office and United States Forest Service, is temporarily closing Green Peter Reservoir to recreational boating to help with fire suppression efforts. The temporary rule is in effect through August 25, 2023. US Forest Service Scooper Planes have been assigned to the Wiley Fire to assist ground crews with battling the fire. Air assets are critical to fighting the Wiley Fire due to the steep terrain where the fire is burning. The fire is approximately one mile south from the end of Harris Road, off Whiskey Butte Drive, east of Sweet Home. The Marine Board will work with its partners to ensure adherence to boat ramp closures for the safety of the planes and fire crews. View the official closure notice. Updates will be shared on the agency’s social media channels when available.
