Ironman Lounsbury, June 25

Former Coos Bay Police Sgt. Robert Lounsbury isn’t taking his retirement sitting down. Those who know Lounsbury, know that he is into physical fitness and challenges of the body and mind. For his birthday, Sunday, June 23rd, he celebrated with a challenging 70.3-mile Ironman competition in Couer d’ Alene, Idaho. According to his wife Tammy, “It was an exceptionally windy day & they had to cut the swim distance short. Robert said it was brutal. Every stroke he took he got hit in the face by waves. The bike course was very hilly in places & at places he was riding into the gusty wind. It was 82° at the end of the race. He did his first full Ironman here in 2013 so he enjoyed returning 11 years later.” Lounsbury competes in the 55-59 age group and finished the course in five-hours, 8-minutes and 22-seconds. Overall, he was 342nd out of 1,604 competitors. “Not the kind of fun I would want to have on my birthday but it was a perfect day for him.”
