On Wednesday, July 12, 2023, at approximately 4:40 A.M., the Oregon State Police responded to a vehicle versus pedestrian crash on the northbound Interstate 5 on-ramp, exit 244, in Marion County. The preliminary investigation indicated a pedestrian, Sharon L. Brock (60) of Roseburg, was crossing from the shoulder of northbound Interstate 5 over the northbound on-ramp when she was struck by a Subaru Impreza, operated by Noah Joseph Havlinek (25) of Jefferson, that was merging onto the interstate. The pedestrian (Brock) was declared deceased at the scene. The Subaru operator (Havlinek) was uninjured and cooperated with investigators. The roadway was impacted for approximately 4 hours during the on-scene investigation. OSP was assisted by Jefferson Fire and ODOT.
