City of North Bend release – Friday, Aug. 18, 2023 – “This morning, we had the honor of hosting Governor Tina Kotek for a local leaders’ breakfast at the Pancake Mill Restaurant in North Bend. It was a valuable opportunity for us to share the unique challenges our communities face and discuss potential solutions. Key topics covered: – Housing and houselessness; – Mental health, recovery, and sober services; – Local government finances; – Public safety and judicial staffing; – Our HB4123 City-County Coordinated Homeless Response Pilot; – Urban Growth Boundaries. A big thank you to Wildflour Public House for serving up a delightful dinner for the Governor last night. And what a magical evening at The Liberty Theatre – Home of Little Theatre on the Bay! Governor Kotek surprised our young stars of Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast JR” with roses after their stellar performance. We’re grateful for Governor Kotek’s visit and her support for our local businesses. We eagerly await a follow-up on policy and funding decisions crucial to our community here on the southern Oregon coast.” Sipping coffee and breaking yolks with the Governor were: North Bend Mayor Jessica Engelke, Coos County Commissioner John Sweet, Coos Bay Mayor Joe Benetti, North Bend City Administrator David Milliron, and Coos Bay City Manager Nichole Rutherford. The visit was part of the Governor’s pledge to visit all of the counties in the State and meet with local officials.
