Endangered Sea Turtle, Jan. 9

She’s not the first, nor the last, but the latest endangered green sea turtle from warmer waters south washed ashore on a Manzanita Beach on the North Oregon Coast Saturday. The 22-pound female, dubbed “Squirt,” was transported to the Oregon Coast Aquarium at Newport for care. Turtles can, unfortunately, catch a warm current north and then find themselves stranded in colder waters when it runs out. The green turtle can reach up to 350-pounds. Females reach maturity at 25 to 30-years and can live as long as 75-years. Officials hope to help her recover and release her back into the Pacific Ocean off Central California.
