A Veneta Male Was arrested for DUII after his vehicle was reported as a driving complaint near the Hwy 101 Hwy 42 Junction. On March 20th, 2024, at 6:30 p.m., the Coos County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch Center received a 911 report of a gray Subaru driving all over the road and nearly driving into a ditch at one point near the Hwy 101 and Hwy 42 Junction. Dispatch provided the driving complaint to the Oregon State Police and aired it to any Deputy who might be in the area. A deputy in the Bunkerhill area successfully intercepted the vehicle and observed it failing to maintain lane, following too closely while rapidly accelerating and then breaking hard. The deputy attempted to conduct a traffic stop of the vehicle in Bunkerhill, however, the vehicle continued into Coos Bay, where it finally stopped in Abby’s parking lot at Hwy 101 N. near Johnson Ave. The driver, Martin G. Tierney (61) was contacted and performed testing before being arrested on the charge of DUII. Mr. Tierney was transported to the Coos County Jail, where additional testing was conducted. Mr. Tierney’s vehicle was towed from the location by Mast Brothers Towing. Mr. Tierney was later cited for DUII and released. ****Important Note*** ALL individuals arrested for DUII as a stand-alone crime are released pending court appearance, either to a sober adult or when they have sobered themselves).
