Freerksen, while patrolling the Bunkerhill area, initiated a traffic stop on a white Lexus sedan. The vehicle was observed speeding and operating without activated headlights. The driver, 23-year-old Joshua Hatten, was stopped at the intersection of Johnson Ave and Broadway. Upon interaction, Deputy Freerksen noted signs suggesting Mr. Hatten was under the influence of intoxicants. A subsequent investigation led to the arrest of Mr. Hatten for DUII. Mr. Hatten was transported to the Coos Bay Police Department for a breath test and later to Bay Area Hospital for a blood test. Following standard procedure, Mr. Hatten was issued a criminal citation for DUII and released to the custody of a sober adult.
