On November 21st, 2023, at approximately 2:30 am, Coos County Dispatch received a distressing 911 call from a victim of domestic violence, urgently requesting the presence of law enforcement. The victim reported that Alejandro Lopez (34), the suspect, had left the residence in a green Subaru Legacy. Responding swiftly to the call, Deputy B. Freerksen arrived at a residence on Tom Smith Rd in Bandon to commence an investigation. During the investigation, Deputy Freerksen gathered crucial information, revealing that Mr. Lopez had physically assaulted the victim by forcefully kicking them off the bed and subsequently placing his arm around their neck, causing a restriction of their ability to breathe or call for help. Fortunately, the victim was able to get out of his grasp and yell for help. Two other individuals in the house intervened and confronted Mr. Lopez, leading to his departure from the scene. Bandon Police Officer Price was able to locate Mr. Lopez and his vehicle in a nearby parking lot, promptly taking him into custody as per Deputy Freerksen’s request. Following the apprehension, Deputy Freerksen met with Officer Price and took custody of Mr. Lopez. Presently, Mr. Lopez remains in custody at the Coos County Jail pending formal arraignment for the charges of Domestic Strangulation, a class C felony, and Domestic Harassment, a class B Misdemeanor. The Coos County Sheriff’s Office commends the swift response and collaborative efforts of Deputy Freerksen, Bandon Police Officer Price, and the individuals who intervened in this distressing domestic violence incident. We want to remind the community that domestic violence is a severe offense and will not be tolerated.
