CCSO Corrections Officers Graduate
CCSO release – Deputies J. Johnston and D. Cossey graduate from DPSST Basic Corrections Class. Please join us in congratulating Deputies J. Johnston and D. Cossey on graduating from DPSST BCL Correction class 059. The men ranked 5th and 6th overall in their class, displaying exceptional motivation, professionalism, and dedication to the corrections field over the last six weeks. Stuck in the Wet Sand
CCSO release – Date / Time: April 18th, 2024, 7:04 p.m.; Case Number(s): 2024-00009072; Location: North Spit. Vehicle becames suck in wet sand on the North Spit and is recoverd just before high tide. On April 18th, 2024, at 7:04 p.m., Deputy M.R. Smith from the Sheriff’s Office Dunes Division and North Bend Towing Company promptly and efficiently assisted a subject who became stuck in wet sand on the North Spit. The operator was driving on the beach when wet sand pulled his vehicle out towards the water, burying him to the frame of his vehicle while high tide was coming in. The Sheriff’s Office would like to remind those operating vehicles on the beach to know their surroundings and the ever-changing conditions.

Menacing, Barview
CCSO release – Date / Time: April 19th, 8:00 a.m.; Case Number(s): 2024-00009094; Classification: Menacing (x2) Reckless Endangering (X2); Location: Barview; Suspect(s): Jacob E. Lawson (49); Coos Bay male arrested after attempting to drive his pick-up truck into a fence and over a tent occupied by a man and woman. On April 19th, 2024, at 8:00 a.m., the Coos County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch Center received a 911 call of a male attempting to run over a fence and tent occupied by two individuals with his pick-up truck. Deputy S. Starr responded and contacted the victims, who were shaken up but otherwise uninjured. Deputy Starr located the suspect, Jacob E. Lawson (49), near Bastendorff Beach Road and interviewed him about his involvement. After an investigation, Jacob E. Lawson (49) was arrested on two counts of Menacing and two counts of Reckless Endangerment. He was transported to the Coos County Jail, where he was booked and remains in custody.

Stranded Offshore, Sunset Beach
CCSO release – Date / Time: April 19th, 7:30 p.m.; Case Number(s): 2024-00009160; Stranded paddle boarder at Sunset Beach rescued by a good samaritan and U.S. Coast Guard. On April 19th, 2024, at 7:30 p.m., the Coos County Sheriff’s Office received a call to assist the U.S. Coast Guard with visually locating a stranded paddle boarder at Sunset Beach. Deputy K. Mong responded to Sunset Beach and could see the female was stranded on a sand bar past the rocks, and relayed this information to the U.S. Coast Guard, who was not yet on the scene. With the help of a good Samaritan in a kayak and the U.S. Coast Guard, the female was rescued unharmed.

Assault, Bandon
CCSO release – Date / Time: April 20th, 7:00 a.m.; Case Number(s): 2024-00009183; Classification: Assault IV (D), Menacing, Strangulation, Unlawful Use of a Weapon; Location: Astor Lane, Bandon; Suspect(s): Shawn M. Brown (56). Bandon male arrested on several charges after a report of a domestic assault. On April 20th, 2024, at 7:00 a.m., the Coos County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch Center took a report of an assault that had occurred on Astor Lane just south of Bandon, Oregon. Deputies S. Starr and H. Francis responded and began investigating the incident. As a result of the investigation, Deputy S. Starr applied for and was granted a search warrant for the suspect, Shawn M. Brown’s (56) residence. The warrant was executed, items of evidence were seized, and Shawn M. Brown (56), who was inside, was arrested. Brown was charged with Assault IV Domestic, Menacing, Strangulation, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, and Resisting Arrest. Brown was transported to the Coos County Jail, where he was booked and remains in custody.
