South Coast Holiday Basketball Tournament
Philomath’s boys and girls swept the 2023 Les Schwab Tires South Coast Holiday Basketball Tournament at Marshfield High School Saturday. Philomath’s girls won 44-30 over Bandon after the Lady Tigers stepped in for Coquille, which had too many games on its schedule and could not play for the title. Scappoose won third-place over host Marshfield 48-43, Crook Co. downed Junction City 33-22 for fourth-place and Hidden Valley defeated Mazama for sixth. Philomath boys took the championship game 60-36 over Crook Co. Redmond defeated Marshfield 50-47 for third, Junction City over Hidden Valley 57-26 for fourth, and North Bend downed Mazama 58-52 for sixth place.

Prep games played Friday, Dec. 15 at the South Coast Holiday Basketball Tournament. Girls Consolation semi-finals: Junction City over Hidden Valley 29-27. Crook Co. beat Mazama 57-18. Championship semi-finals: Philomath downed Marsfield 44-39. Coquille beat Scappoose 41-32. Boy’s Consolation semi-finals: Junction City beat North Bend 46-37. Hidden Valley downed Mazama 66-51. Championship semi-finals: Philomath beat Marshfield 51-38. Crook Co. over Redmond 52-48.

North Bend’s boys were 31st at the Grants Pass Winter Wrestling Kickoff Saturday at Grants Pass HS. The Bulldogs tallied 16-points. Illinois Valley won with 157. Siuslaw finished 19th (48). Dayne Muller of Siuslaw was second at 190 lbs. North Valley won the girl’s portion with 110-points. Siuslaw was third (99). North Bend 22nd (29). Siuslaw’s Macali Lade won the 115 lb. weight class. The Vikings had another champion at 170 with Jane Lacouture.
