ODFW hosts Port Orford, Brookings public meetings on abalone conservation and management, Oct. 25

ODFW release – NEWPORT, Ore – ODFW is hosting public meetings on abalone management later this month in Port Orford and Brookings. Both meetings are held 5 p.m. – 6 p.m. Port Orford, Wednesday, Oct. 25, Port Orford Public Library, 1421 Oregon Str. Brookings, Thursday, Oct. 26, Chetco Community Public Library, 405 Alder Str. ODFW staff will present this history of abalones in Oregon, biology, fisheries, and management choices. A draft of Oregon’s Red Abalone Conservation and Fishery Management Plan will be highlighted. The plan guides a pathway to future abalone management. ODFW staff will present abalone fishery recommendations to the Oregon Fish and Wildlife Commission at their Dec. 14-15 meeting in McMinnville.
