City of North Bend release – Attention Motorists: ODOT is launching a significant sidewalk project to enhance pedestrian facilities in our region. Here’s what you need to know… Starting Oct. 16th, an Oregon Department of Transportation contractor will begin replacing sidewalk curb ramps at 35 key intersections in North Bend, Coos Bay, and nearby areas. These upgrades will make a world of difference for our community members using wheelchairs, as well as those with visual challenges. Check out the major sites: – U.S. 101 in North Bend (9 intersections); – Coos Bay (7); – Bunker Hill (8); – Millington Frontage Road (8 next to U.S. 101); – Oregon 241 near Bunker Hill (2); – Oregon 540 in Charleston (1). The project will span about 10 months, with work day and night depending on location. Each ramp will take 2-3 weeks, wrapping up in August 2024. Heads up, drivers! Be prepared for occasional lane closures and signage. Friendly flaggers will be there to guide you safely. Pedestrians, ODOT has you! If a sidewalk is closed, pedestrians will be directed to an alternate route. Plus, businesses will remain accessible throughout construction. Features: The revamped ramps will not only ease travel for those on wheels but will also feature yellow tactile domes to aid individuals with limited vision.
