A handful of Safeway grocery stores along the Oregon Coast are on the chopping block from Kroger, the parent company of Fred Meyer, Albertsons and QFC, which needs to sell some of the stores following federal acceptance of their merger agreement. Sixty-two stores in Oregon will be sold to C&S Wholesale Grocers, which owns Grand Union and Piggly Wiggly stores. The list includes five Safeway stores on the Coast including Coos Bay, Florence, Newport, Tillamook, Seaside and Astoria.
